Tina Chang Qu performs regularly as violin solo recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. She started violin lessons at age seven. After only two years, she was admitted to the prestigious pre-college of the Central Conservatory of music in Beijing, where she studied with Prof. Wang Zhen Shan. In 1994, she was invited to come to the US on full scholarship to the Univ. of Southern California, where she studied with Prof. Alice Schoenfeld. Within two months, she won the 23rd Mozart Festival Concerto competition. Numerous additional wins soon followed, including the top prize of both ASTA Los Angeles and California competitions, and the Pasadena Young Concert Artist competition. In 1996, Ms. Qu was admitted on full scholarship to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, earning her Bachelors degree. While at Curtis, she studied with Felix Galimir, Jaime Laredo, Pamela Frank, and Ida Kavafian. She then was admitted on full scholarship to the Julliard School of Music, earning her Masters degree. While at Juilliard, she studied with Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki.

As a soloist, she has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Orchestra of China, American Youth Symphony under Mehli Mehta, Mozart Festival Orchestra, West-Chester Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Claremont Symphony, and St. Matthew Chamber Orchestra. Her first CD captured a solo performance of the “Butterfly Lovers,” with United Chinese American Orchestra under Li De Lun, for its 40th Anniversary. The CD brought a highly acclaimed review from Journey News. In 2012, she appeared as soloist with the National Orchestra of China on statewide television, performing the premiere of “The Sunshine,” by Ping Anjun. A DVD of the performance was later released.

As a recitalist, she performed throughout the US, including Alice Tully Hall in New York. In Hong Kong, she played a recital that was broadcasted live by RTHK Radio. In 2004, she was invited by the Hong Kong Cultural Presentation Limited to perform in HK City Hall. A DVD of the performance was later released.

As an orchestral musician, she is member of the Los Angeles Opera and associate concertmaster of the New West Symphony. She had worked under numerous world- leading conductors, including Simon Rattle, Andre Previn, James Levin, Wolfgang Sawalish, Christopher Eischenbach, David Zinman, and Michael Tilson Thomas. Ms. Qu has been the concertmaster of the Pacific International Music Festival in Japan and the Schleswig Holstein international music festival in Germany, as well as associate concertmaster of the Juilliard Opera and the Haddonfield Symphony. She is a former member of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Santa Fe Opera Company.
As a chamber musician, she has performed in a variety of chamber music ensembles in Europe, Asia, and the US, including performances collaborated with members of the Prague String Quartet and Vienna String Quartet. As the founding member of the Dragon String Quartet (with Hong Kong Philharmonic principal chairs), she performed in the city Hall, and the RTHK TV and Radio. In addition, she has performed in numerous orchestra engagements, such as Verbier Orchestra in Switzerland, Aspen Chamber Symphony and the New York String Seminar. She also performed in many major concert halls, such as the Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Musikverin in Vienna, Kitara Hall in Japan and Kimel Performing Arts Center in Philadelphia. She is a leading member of the Harmonium Piano Trio and the Munai Piano Trio, both of which perform actively in the Los Angeles area.

As a teacher, she is on the faculty at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles. She formerly taught at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has served on the panel of American String Teachers Association California Competitions and a panel judge for Violin Grade Exams. Recently, she has given recital and master class at Soochow University in China. Her students have won numerous prizes in competitions and scholarships.

She has held interviews by Panda Channel TV, KCET in Los Angeles, American Voice Radio, Chinese World Journey, China Star, Beverly Hills News, and Channel Jade in Hong Kong.
